Illegal Lawaan lumber seized in Surigao del Sur


Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) personnel have intercepted on Wednesday a truck full of illegally cut Lawaan lumber during a checkpoint operation in Carmen town in Surigao del Sur, police reports said on Friday. The illegal cargo, with approximate volume of 1,475 board feet and estimated value of P51,625, was seized by personnel of the Carmen Municipal Police Station (MPS), DENR and Surigao Development Corporation. Initial investigation revealed that a certain Dennis Yu, a resident of Cortes, Surigao del Sur, owns the cargo and the vehicle. The lumber and vehicle are now under the custody of Carmen police for proper disposition, the reports said.
