Illegal loggers surrender in Isabela

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela: Some 74 suspected illegal loggers surrendered to Mayor Evelyn Diaz here recently for fear of being indicted for violation of the anti-illegal logging law. Accompanied by village officials, the loggers signed an affidavit of undertaking and promised not to engage in illegal logging activities anymore. Diaz has called on suspected illegal loggers who are also reportedly supplying furniture makers and hardware stores selling lumber to stop their activities. The illegal logging activities particularly rampant in the outlying part of Isabela and in the Northern Sierra Madre have the most serious and apparent threat to remaining forest cover.
