POLICE operatives on Tuesday recovered several pieces of illegally cut-logs while on patrol at a river in a remote village in the lowland area of Agusan del Norte, police reports said on Wednesday.
Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame said that a police patrol recovered the logs at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Agusan River in Barangay Agbayao, Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte.
The reports said that elements of the Las Nieves Municipal police were patrolling the river when it spotted some 20 pieces of logs of different species and sizes along the river.
Initial investigation revealed that the logs were being towed by a group of unidentified men, who scampered in different directions and left the logs after sensing the presence of patrolling police elements, the reports said.
The reports said that police brought the logs to the Las Nieves Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and documentation before these are turned over to environmental authorities.
