The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and police officials have seized on Thursday some P500, 000 worth of illegally cut lawaan lumber during anti-illegal logging operations in a remote village in Agusan Del Sur, police reports said on Friday.
Reports reaching the PNP National Operations Center in Camp Crame said the logs were seized at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday by authorities during anti-illegal logging operations in Barangay Cuevas in Trento town in Agusan del Sur.
The reports said the illegally cut lumber were seized jointly by the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force of the DENR, 113rd Regional Public Safety Company of the 13th Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office.
The logs were reportedly seized by the authorities on board a truck driven by Isebro Pana, 28, of Bunawan, Poblacion, Davao City with Joemarie Narag, 28, of P-10 Valencia City in Bukidnon.
The police reports said that authorities were able to seize from the truck some 12,000 board feet of illegally cut lumber worth P500,000.
Pana and Narag are under the custody of the Trento Municipal Police Station for investigation while charges are being readied against them, the reports said.
The police reports added that the seized logs are in the headquarters 113rd RPSC for safekeeping and proper disposition.
