Illegal lumber seized in Bulacan


The 48th Infantry (Guardians) Battalion (48IB) through confiscated illegally cut lumbers at Sitio Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan on Saturday morning.

It was learned that a concerned citizen called one of the battalion’s hotlines that there was a closed van with alleged illegally cut logs along the road of Sitio Ipo Dam that was abandoned by unidentified men.

Troops of Alpha Company, 48IB immediately responded, and they found and confiscated the said abandoned Elf Van with plate number UAV 943 loaded with 1,500 board feet of assorted sizes of lumber.

Major General Angelito Leon, 7th Infantry Division commanding officer, said cooperation between the military and stakeholders has to be intensified to protect and save the environment, and prevent the illegal activities of illegal loggers operating in the entire province of Bulacan.

Lieutenant Colonel Eugenio Julio Osias 4rth, commanding officer of the 48IB, said the heavy flooding in the province of Bulacan was caused by illegal logging, and that it must be stopped.

The confiscated items are in the custody of 48IB for turnover to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
