Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested an illegal recruiter in an entrapment operation at a Quezon City on Monday. Nabbed by operatives of the CIDG Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (ATCU) was Antonio Toca, of East Fairview in Quezon City, on the complaint of more than 50 applicants for a supposed job in Canada. CIDG-ATCU officer-in-charge, Chief Insp. Roque Merdeguia said that Toca told his victims that jobs are waiting for them in Canada and collected a minimum of P60,000 from each allegedly for processing and other fees. The Philippine Overseas Employment Agency confirmed that Toca has no permit to recruit workers for abroad. Toca, detained at the CIDG-ATCU detention facility in Camp Crame, will be facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 8042, or the Migrant Workers and Overseas Act of 1995 for large-scale illegal recruitment, and estafa.
