• ILO to boost Cotabato’s halal products


    COTABATO CITY: The Cotabato City government’s halal industry got a boost after the International Labor Organization (ILO) expressed willingness to provide livelihood trainings for residents, to improve local industries producing food for Muslim consumers not only for domestic consumption but also for international use. Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. said ILO representatives, led by enterprise development expert Hediki Kagahashi, conferred with local officials recently on how to maximize production of halal food products by local producers. Halal is an Arabic label for food Muslims can eat and consumer products without any prohibition. The term halal can also mean anything that is not haram (forbidden) and legitimate according to Islamic laws.
