Ilocos official ambushed


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union: The Association of Barangay Council (ABC) president of Solsona town, Ilocos Norte is fighting for his life after he was ambushed late Monday afternoon while going home after attending a council session.

Alexander Calucag, with police escort Police Officer 3 Rodante Julian were ambushed along barangay Nalasin, is in critical condition at the Gov. Roque Ablan Memorial Hospital in Laoag City.

A slug has remained at the left front lobe of Calucag’s head, but he remains conscious.

Calucag’s police escort, PO3 Julian, suffered several gunshot wounds on different parts of the body which caused his immediate death.

It was learned that Calucag was driving his Mitsubishi Montero with Julian and were on their way home after attending a session of barangay captains when they were strafed with gunfire with firearms of still unknown caliber by unidentified suspects.

Police are possibly looking at politics as the motive behind the incident.

Reports said that Calucag recently filed an administrative case in the Provincial Board against Solsona Mayor Jonathan De Lara and his father Vice Mayor Joseph De Lara.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos condemned the rash of violence in Calucag’s hometown.

Governor Marcos is pushing police authorities to probe the presence of high-powered firearms in the town of Solsona.

Laoag City police investigators are yet to identify suspects as of now.
