IN preparation for the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos, the provincial board of Ilocos Norte unanimously approved a resolution seeking approval of President Rodrigo Duterte to declare September 11, 2016 as a special non-working holiday in the province. Vice Gov. Eugenio Angelo Barba said the resolution— “President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day”—aims to give way for the people of Ilocos Norte to celebrate the 99th birth anniversary of Marcos. “We would like to pay him tribute for being one of the province’s most illustrious sons and for being the longest serving President in the history of the Philippines,” Barba said. Board Member Conrado Respicio 3rd said they have asked lawmakers from the province—Rodolfo Farinas and Imelda Marcos—to sponsor a bill seeking the permanent declaration of September 11 as a local non-working holiday. Respicio said it will be realized through a Republic Act.
