Iloilo City agriculture office wants independence from province

ILOILO CITY: City councilor Lyndon Acap on Tuesday filed a resolution to make the city agriculture office independent from the Iloilo agriculture office and a separate urban agricultural program from the province. Acap made the urgent request for the Department of Agriculture to separate the Iloilo City agriculture office from the jurisdictional umbrella of the Iloilo provincial office which was unanimously approved by the city council in consonance with Article III, Section 29 of RA 7160 or the local government code of 1991. Acap said that Iloilo City is a highly urbanized city with its own charter independent as a separate local government unit from the province of Iloilo, since the city has complete different agricultural program being a highly urbanized classification different from the rural communities under the provincial agriculture office.
