Iloilo City council approves regulation on prostitution


ILOILO CITY: The city council here has approved a regulation ordinance that prohibits any form of solicitation for prostitution and providing penalties. Councilor Plaridel Nava, who made the proposal, said the ordinance will try to regulate the proliferation of open prostitution here in reference to provisions of the local government code that states “the Sangguniang Panlungsod, as the legislative body of the city, shall enact ordinance intended to prevent, suppress and impose any appropriate penalties for habitual drunkenness in public places, vagrancy, mendicancy, prostitution and such other activities inimical to the welfare and moral of the inhabitants of the city.” The penalty is P1,000 or 30-day imprisonment or both at the discretion of the court and to undergo moral counseling for first offense; P2,000 fine or imprisonment of 30 days to six months or both for second offense and P3,000 fine or imprisonment of six months to one year or both for third offense. Violators will also undergo moral counseling.

  1. Prositution cannot be stopped but could be regulated. Twice a week of medical check up for men or women and mandatory use of condoms will reduce diseases. And let them pay Recto’s Law of 12%.
