ILOILO CITY: Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog on Monday said he has effective base for prioritizing funds for the rehabilitation and improvement of existing drainage and construction of new drainage system after the Geo Science Foundation Inc. presented a study on the existing drainage system and flooding situation of all 180 barangays in this city. The research was commissioned by the Mines and Geophysics Bureau to conduct barangay assessment of the city and its susceptibility to floodings and landslides in June 14 to 29, 2013. The study focused on floodings since the city is not susceptible to landslide. Mabilog said the research based information and hazard mapping will be included in the 2015 Annual Development Plan to determine the cost of drainage construction as top priority in low lying barangays. The mayor said he will look for funds for the construction and rehabilitation of the drainage system, adding that he does not want palliative measures to curb floodings due to heavy rains and river water overrun.
