ILOILO CITY, Iloilo: Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has banned cigarette smokers and users of illegal drugs from applying for jobs at city hall and said applicants must show medical certificates about the status of their health.
He also said regular employees faced criminal and administrative sanctions for smoking inside the buildings and within and around the city hall premises.
“The campaign for smoke-free Iloilo City must emanate first at the seat of the city government. Employees must be role models for the whole community,” he said.
The city has been campaigning against smoking in the city. It has banned the use of tobacco in public and private buildings as well as in parks, public and private vehicles and restaurants.
The City has been award the Red Orchid Hall of Fame by the Department of Health. Its smoke-free slogan has earned the support of professionals, the church and academe.
