Iloilo City not affected by ongoing power crisis

ILOILO CITY: This southern city has enough power supply and isolated brownouts are not a problem for two privately owned power generating plants located at Barangay Ingore, La Paz district here.

This was announced by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo on Wednesday as parts of Metro Manila and Luzon agonize over frequent brownouts.

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla disclosed recently that the power supply in Luzon is fast dwindling.

However, Iloilo City is not affected by the power crisis and can guarantee enough power supply for prospective investors and business locators to the city.

Mabilog also lauded the foresight of the owners of private generation plants in the city for putting up another plant of 150 megawatts to be commissioned by early 2016. The Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co. and its partners put up a 72-megawatt diesel power plant under Panay Energy Corp. in 2002, and main partner Global Business Power Corp. put up the 184-megawatt first coal-fired power plant under Panay Energy Development Corp in 2010.
