ILOILO CITY: An opposition stalwart in this city has joined the Liberal Party (LP) for “practicality and realistic move” to win a seat as city councilor.
Former city councilor Jeffrey Ganzon took his oath before LP presidential bet Mar Roxas on September 25 while the party held its Visayas-wide convention in this city.
Ganzon, who ran for vice mayor in 2013 under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) but was unsuccessful in his bid, is a son of the late senator Rodolfo Ganzon.
He will be joining the reelectionist team of Cong. Jerry P. Trenas, City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa 3rd.
Ganzon left the opposition camp Ilonggo Alliance for Change and Transparency (I-ACT) headed by Dr. Marigold Gonzalez, daughter of the late Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez reportedly because of differences of opinion.
Ganzon is relying on the full support of the Timawa Party of his father, which catapulted the elder Ganzon to victory in the local and national polls.
He admitted that Senate President Franklin M. Drilon, Trenas and Mabilog have talked to him to join the LP.
