Iloilo city set for New Year countdown

The Iloilo city government will mark the 5th New Year’s Countdown celebration with colorful fireworks over the Iloilo River and along the Muelle Loney area on December 31, 2014.

A pet project of city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, the firecracker-free celebration will be augmented by a food festival starting December 30. He said the countdown this year is the biggest and grandest fireworks display in the entire Iloilo province.

The New Year Countdown is an official celebration listed alongside the famous Dinagyang Festival (celebrated every fourth week of January) and the Paraw Regatta in February.

For those who would rather light firecrackers at their own localities, Mabilog said they can buy their stuff at the city plazas which were designated by the City Government as firecracker vending zones from December 20 to December 31.

Mabilog also said he has also ordered the Philippine National Police to maintain the peace and order situation and to ensure the safety of the party-goers.

Mabilog also ordered the installation of more street lights to aid pedestrians who will attend the event.

been alerted and are ready to maintain peace and order during the celebrations.
