ILOILO CITY: Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here is waiting for the final recommendation of the city legal office on the fate of contracted water supplier Holland Water Resources to stop implementation of the water delivery contract to 21 water deficit barangays. Holland Waters indicated that it cannot fully comply with the contract agreement in delivering water to the barangays by virtue of force majeure. The city legal office may recommend to rescind the contract with Holland Waters and the city will have to use the P3 million earmarked for water delivery to purchase a water tanker and be the one to deliver water to the barangays. Mabilog said that the El Niño phenomenon had dried up the rivers and affected even the fresh water table, and the contracted water delivery was only a palliative measure. The Metro Iloilo Water District is mandated to supply water to city consumers with or without the El Niño and nobody can replace it, the city mayor said.
