ILOILO CITY: The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in coordination with the city government hired 230 college students to work in various offices in Iloilo City Hall and barangay halls this summer. Ma. Elena Benitez, chief of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), said the summer jobs program is a pet project of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to allow students to learn what the city government is doing for its constituents. The Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) offers a daily allowance of P287, 40 percent coming from DOLE and 60 percent from the city government. Benitez said that 21 students will be assigned at the PESO to work and encode on the skills registry system (SRS) recommended by DOLE to know the manpower available in the 180 barangays.
