• Iloilo councilor pushes for cockfight arenas

ILOILO CITY: City councilor Lyndon Acap, City Council committee on games and amusements chairman, is pushing for the approval of an ordinance allowing the operation of a cockfighting arena in each of the seven administrative districts of the city. Acap said he is banking on the legal opinion of Undersecretary Austere Panadero of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on the proposal. Acap added that cockfighting is a custom and tradition of the Ilonggos considered as a tourist attraction and in entertaining visitors during fiesta celebration or any special occasion in the barangays. He will reintroduce the proposal on Tuesday, June 9 at the city council session hall for approval and or votation of council members.
