Iloilo electric coop seeks P242-M rehabilitation subsidy

ILOILO CITY: The Iloilo Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ileco III) based in Sara, Iloilo has applied      with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for a Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Program subsidy amounting to P242,166,731.

Ileco III general manager Antonio Lazarraga said the whole project cost will be financed through a government subsidy and will not increase the energy rates for its 62,000 consumers in 13 municipalities in northern Iloilo.

The towns covered are Ajuy, Anilao, Balasan, Banate, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Estancia, Lemery, San Dionisio, San Rafael and Sara which suffered great devastation including total blackout for several weeks after Super Typhoon Yolanda on November 8, 2013.

Ileco III said that almost 95 percent of the distribution lines were knocked down and the transmission lines were destroyed by strong winds.

The electric coop prayed that the repair, restoration, replacement and rehabilitation works on Ileco III’s distribution lines, accessories, facilities and structures damaged by Yolanda be confirmed and approved by ERC based on a force majeure event capital expenditure project.

  1. with this huge amount Ileco is asking for, we can readily convert to solar energy that will light up hundreds or thousands of household with clean energy!!! Has the government given this any thought or they just want to give that money minus the kickbacks that will make everybody happy?
