ILOILO CITY: Ten fisherfolks from the towns of Barotac Viejo and Dumangas, Iloilo are recipient of today’s distribution of boat donations by the Senate through the Senate Defenders Basketball Team.

Senate Defenders Basketball Team Director Gen. Rodel Dascil said that they were able to raise boat donations from their private donors, particularly AMCHAM Foundation Phils., Inc. and Embrace, which they are turning over to the fishermen recipients in Barotac Viejo and Dumangas today.

He said that they have chosen fisherfolks in Dumangas town for it is the birthplace of Sen. Franklin M. Drilon and also of their player Kenneth Duremdes.

Dir. Gen. Ronald Golding also said that the motorized boat they are distributing is worth Php20,000 more or less each and ready for use by the recipients.

”We are happy that in our own little way we are able to help the fisherfolks who lost their means of livelihood during the typhoon,” Golding said. He said the Senate Defenders Basketball Team is composed of Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara as team captain and Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada.

Prior to the boat distribution, the team made a friendly game with the local players headed by Dumangas Mayor Rolando Distura Sunday afternoon. Senate Defenders players Kenneth Duremdes and Zaldy Realubit played with the local talents.

Director Lino Ong and Nikka Sotelo, Political Affairs Officer of the Office of Sen. Ralph G. Recto, were also present. PNA
