ILOILO CITY: The city government here has assured additional assistance to help the needs of city policemen in its fight against crime and other forms of lawlessness in the city. City mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the Iloilo City Police Office under Sr. Supt. Ruperto Floro is finalizing the establishment of three additional police substations in strategic areas in a move to stem the tide of criminalities as the city embarks on an unprecedented developments and infrastructures in different city areas. Mabilog said the new police substations will be located in Barangay Buhang, Jaro near the material recovery facility of the barangay, another in Lapuz area near the Jalandoni Elementary School through a usufruct with the Department of Education (DepED), and the last will be in Barangay Bolilao in Mandurriao district. Mabilog said he is thinking of using container vans as initial structure to start the operation of new Philippine National Police (PNP) substations in order to augment and cement police visibility in the areas concerned. The PNP regional office has assured additional policemen to man the substations. Similarly, the city will be purchasing an initial 10 units of motorcycles and 10 more units within this year to augment police mobility including scooters to be used by tourism police and cops on bike on tourism places such as the Esplanade and Smallville areas.
