ILOILO CITYL St. Therese MTC Colleges here won the first place in the college level of the recently concluded Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools in Western Visayas spearheaded by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR)
St. Therese MTC Colleges also bagged all the special awards at stake in the biennial competition that has been conducted by EMB-DENR since 2009 in cooperation with the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Smart Communications, Meralco Foundation, Nestle, and LandBank.
The special awards are the LandBank Green Leadership Award, Meralco Energy Leadership Award, and Nestle Leadership Award, according to Ramona Gonzaga, school marketing manager.
Dr. Arlene Dalawis, college president together with Dean Capt. Nilo Tesoro received the awards from EMB Western Visayas Director Ariel Gloria and other agency officials during the recent awarding program.
St. Therese MTC Colleges, which joined the search for the first time, will represent Western Visayas in the national level of the competition slated in August.
The search aims to encourage schools to become more actively involved in environmental issues at a practical and local level and develop skills and understanding among the students, faculty and school administrators in initiating active responses and increasing community awareness and participation on environmental concerns.
