ILOILO CITY: This city will host the International Environmental Summit in 2015, the Urban Environmental Accord (UEA) based in Guangju, South Korea announced on Tuesday.
UEA Secretariat members Jung In-sik and Seung Ho Seo met with
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and expressed confidence that Iloilo City can host the summit following the successful staging of the First International River Summit from May 30 to June 1 last year.
The First International River Summit was jointly organized by the Iloilo City government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The UEA Secretariat has appointed Iloilo City environment and natural resources officer Engr. Noel Hechanova to head the local secretariat of the International Environment Summit that will focus on climate change.
More than 300 participants from Asia, Europe, Africa and the United States are expected to attend the environmental summit, which will be held before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit to be hosted by Central Luzon in October.
