ILOILO CITY: Village officials and residents of Barangay Benedicto in Jaro district here are preparing to battle disease-carrying mosquitoes after three residents were found afflicted with the Zika virus. Barangay Chairman Luisito Villarina rallied the residents on Thursday to unite in controlling if not eradicating the spread of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, carriers of the virus. Indoor spraying of larvicides and pesticides will be conducted in five days starting today, Friday, targeting first 120 houses. Health officials said indoor spraying is the most logical solution to eradicate the mosquitoes since the village has no areas with stagnant water for mosquito breeding places. City Health Officer Amelia Guarin urged residents to make 4S a regular habit and participate in cleaning activities. The 4S means Search and destroy mosquito breeding places, use Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation for fever lasting more than two days and Say No to indiscriminate fogging.
