LAOAG CITY: “Our province will continue to be on red alert versus illegal drugs,” Gov. Imee Marcos of Ilocos Norte said in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s aggressive campaign against illegal drugs. Recently, Marcos ordered law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts to curb proliferation of illegal drugs in the province and its nearby areas to sustain peace and order. She made her call a few days after combined troops from the Anti-Illegal Drugs Group of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan police seized P1 billion worth of at least 180-kilograms of high grade methamphetamine or shabu in Barangay Culao, Claveria, Cagayan recently. “I challenge the military and the police to reduce if not eliminate the proliferation of illegal drugs in the province,” the governor said. Active anti-drug programs have been one of Marcos’ priorities as she cited that illegal drugs have caused several crimes in the communities.
