• IMF chief backs Japan gender drive

TOKYO: International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde on Friday commended Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s efforts to power the economy by boosting the female workforce, but added he needs to do more, including accepting more immigrants. “The global economy is not making use of great potential that is available. And that needs to change, not just for women’s sake, but for economy’s sake,” Lagarde, said in a Tokyo conference on women in the labor market.
