A whole decade after Iza Calzado starred in the top-rating drama series Impostora on GMA Network, the studio is all set to premiere its 2017 remake this time with 28-year-old actress Kris Bernal taking on the challenging and daring dual role of Nimfa and Rosette.
Nimfa is an unsightly street vendor who willingly undergoes surgery and complete facial reconstruction to pretend to be Rosette, a wealthy and beautiful but unhappily married wife seeking to escape her husband.
“First time ko na gumawa ng isang dual role,” acknowledged Bernal whose TV career began when she won the network’s talent search “Starstruck” in 2007, the very year the original Impostora aired on GMA. “Dito sa soap talaga ako mahahasa, at mag-gro-grow. Ito na siguro yung pinaka-challenging character ko. Sa Impostora, pabago-bago ako, hindi lang sa acting, sa pananamit din, may prosthetics pa ako and iba’t-ibang makeup at looks.”
The actress, who last appeared as co-lead with superstar Nora Aunor in the 2015 series “Little Nanay,” is grateful to her producers for entrusting her the remake of such a successful series, which not only ran on Philippine TV but internationally as well.
In fact, Impostora is the first GMA-produced TV drama adapted abroad. It first aired in Malaysia in 2007, and in 2013, the series was adapted by Cambodia Broadcasting Service (CTN) using the title “Impostors.” Besides these two countries, the show also ran in other territories namely Hawaii, Singapore, Myanmar, Brunei, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Korea, US, and Romania It is currently airing in Hawaii via Kiku TV.
For this 2017 outing, Bernal has Rafael Rosell as her leading man, with a versatile cast of supporting actors in Ryan Eigenmann, Assunta de Rossi, Elizabeth Oropeza, Aicelle Santos, Vaness del Moral, Rita Daniela as Maureen, Leandro Baldemor, Sinon Loresca, Yuan Francisco, and Dayara Shane, with the special participation of James Blanco as Eric, Nimfa’s first love.
Impostora is directed by Albert Langitan and begins airing this afternoon on GMA Network.
