IMUS and Bacoor in Cavite top the list of the best places to retire in the country for foreign nationals, offering a mix of rural and urban aspects of life, according to a property portal.
Lamudi Philippines named Imus, Cavite as the top location for foreigners retiring in the country, noting a quiet neighborhood not too far from the capital.
“Imus is an ideal retirement location because it is very close to Metro Manila [approximately 19 km south of the capital], giving foreign retirees a quiet suburb to live in that is not too far from the conveniences of the capital,” Lamudi said
Despite the character of a peaceful suburb, the city of Imus also offers various lifestyle amenities. Imus is currently home to 14 commercial centers, according to Lamudi.
“While very urbanized, Imus still retains most of its provincial charm,” Lamudi said.
Monthly rents in the Imus range from P4,000 for a two bedroom townhouse to P13,000 for a three bedroom house and lot.
Following Imus on the list is Bacoor City, also in Cavite. Lamudi dubbed Bacoor as a “bedroom community” with many residents doing the daily commute to and from Metro Manila for work.
Lamudi noted Bacoor is transitioning from agriculture to residential and commercial development.
“Property developers have been keen on developing projects in rural–urban fringes like Bacoor, which will become the future southern terminus of the Manila Light Rail Transit System,” Lamudi said.
Similar to Imus, Bacoor also offers proximity to Metro Manila and a number of commercial centers.
Third on the list is Tagaytay City, a popular a tourist destination.
“Located in relatively short distance from Metro Manila, it is still far enough to provide the peace and quiet that many come to the area for—not to mention spectacular views of the Taal Lake and Volcano,” Lamudi said.
Meanwhile, Cebu City is the only location outside Luzon to make it to the top five of the list. Lamudi noted the city is an ideal retirement location due to its comprehensive urban amenities.
“Being an island locale, it is very near a good number of tropical resorts and natural attractions, including the white sand beaches of Mactan Island,” Lamudi noted.
Santa Rosa City in Laguna bagged the fifth spot on the list, with its close proximity to Metro Manila at 38 kilometers.
“The premiere city and hub of South Luzon, the city is often called the Makati of the South due to its economic activity sans the density and level of urbanization,” Lamudi said.
Making it to the top 10 of the list are the cities of Calamba, Subic Bay, Dumaguete, Bacolod, and Cagayan De Oro.
Other cities on the list are Davao, Baguio, Tagum, Lipa, and Batangas.
