Officials of the influential religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on Saturday said they are not sure when their “peaceful assembly” would end.
“Wala pang kasiguraduhan kung hanggang kailan magtatagal ito, tanging ang mga taga pamahala ng INC ang magsasabi kung hanggang kailan itong peaceful assembly [We are not sure yet when our peaceful assembly would end, because only the INC management could give orders on how long it would last],” said INC Spokesperson Edwin Zabala in an interview with Net25.
The news was streamed live at the protest area in Shaw Boulevard corner Edsa with hundreds of INC supporters watching.
The report also said members from nearby places in Metro Manila trooped to Shaw Boulevard to show their support.
Meanwhile, some INC members from provinces like Bicol, Camarines Norte are now traveling to Manila to join the protest. Members from Kidapawan and Maguindanao, however, are planning to stage a protest in front of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Davao City on Monday.
Protesters complain of selective justice because Sec. de Lima is said to be interfering with the internal issues of their church.
“Kung gaano kasigasig asikasuhin ang issue sa INC ay dapat ganun din kabilis ang pag asikaso sa issue ng SAF 44. Bakit walang sumasagot sa mga hinaing ng Iglesia [They should be persistent in solving the issue of SAF 44 as much as they are persistent in solving the issue of INC. How come nobody is responding to the petitions of Iglesia?” told by a reporter of INC-based network Net25.
During the concert on Saturday afternoon, supporters belied accusations that they are encouraging others members to join them via house-to-house.
Meanwhile, INC members are asking their brothers and sisters to sign an online petition against DOJ Sec. Leila de Lima through the website Change.org.
