THE Philippine National Police over the weekend said they are ready to provide additional security escorts to incoming PNP chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, a police spokesman said.
This came amid reports of threats against dela Rosa in which a drug lord who is detained at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) or the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City (Metro Manila) is offering P50 million each to anyone who would get the head not only of dela Rosa but also President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
The PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Wilben Mayo, told reporters in Camp Crame in Quezon City that the new national police chief has the authority to request for additional security escorts.
“It is the duty and responsibility of the PNP to provide protection to the people especially to their chief and the President of the country,” Mayor explained to reporters.
Dela Rosa said in a TV interview that he is not afraid of the threat coming from the drug lord, identified as Peter Co, and that he is ready to die anytime in the line of duty.
A member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1986 , he added that even if a battalion of security escorts is assigned to him, if it is his time, he will not be able to escape his fate.
Dela Rosa said in the TV interview that he is always on the alert in case of any eventuality that might happen against him.
