LEXUS has chosen the recent Australia International Motor Show to reveal its stunning new LF-LC Blue concept that, suitably, is clad in unique Opal Blue paintjob. It is the second version of the LF-LC, which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

Lexus said that the car’s new color has been inspired by the “lustrous base color found in the naturally occurring semi-precious opal stone of outback Australia.” All right.

Anyway, beneath this blue skin are advanced technologies and materials with organic design, which Lexus asserted gives an insight into what the future of sports cars hold—lightweight carbon-fiber and the next generation of its hybrid powertrain, in other words.

New to LF-LC and derived from project LFA are carbon-fiber and aluminum alloy materials whose light weight should provide the perfect platform for the next Lexus Hybrid Drive system, according to the carmaker. Dubbed Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive, it features an Atkinson cycle combustion engine that’s mated to an advanced high-energy battery pack that should deliver greater power from a smaller battery. This gasoline/electric hybrid develops 500 horsepower—the most of any Lexus hybrid.
