BENTLEY unveiled its Continental GT concept in 2002, and exactly a decade later the company has brought out its Continental-based GT3 racecar that’s currently being developed by a dedicated motor sport team at its historic Crewe, England, factory. The Continental GT3 marks Bentley’s return to the racetrack for the first time since its sixth Le Mans victory in 2003.
Bentley said the racecar takes off from its new Continental GT Speed, which the carmaker described as its fastest road-going model ever, a “supercar that can be used every day, whatever the weather and road conditions.” It added that the Continental GT3 concept capitalizes on the production model’s performance, high-speed stability and durability while tailoring its specification for the track through the adoption of a rear-wheel drive chassis, advanced racing hardware and a comprehensive aerodynamic package. Of course, a distinctive livery marks the GT3.
Bentley said the Continental GT3 concept is set to go racing in late 2013, and will be built to compete in various series including 24-hour marathons.
