AFTER more than 70 years of roughing it, Jeep vehicles continue to set the benchmark in off-roading, and easily the brand’s most recognized nameplate is the Wrangler. Exactly a decade ago, Jeep unleashed to no-paved-paths enthusiasts the Wrangler Rubicon, named after one of the most grueling off-road trails on the planet.
Simply, Rubicon models are the most extreme Wranglers ever produced.
To mark the variant’s 10th year, Jeep is introducing a new, limited-production 2013 Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition that’s billed as the most capable factory-produced Wrangler ever, packed as it is with equipment die-hard off-road enthusiasts love.
Available as a two-door Wrangler or four-door Wrangler Unlimited, the Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition arrives with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission, either of which can be paired to a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 285 horsepower and 352 Newton-meter of torque. Its part-time four-wheel drive system has electronically locking front and rear Dana 44 axles that receive power through a Rock-Trac transfer case with a “4-Low” ratio of 4:1. A 4:10 axle ratio front and rear is also standard, as are Tru-Lok locking differentials. With a six-speed manual transmission, the vehicle has an impressive crawl ratio of 73.1:1.
If most of those figures and terms mean something to you, then the Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition is perfect for you.
