| The Canon PowerShot G15 is the perfect camera for traveling this holiday season |
Traveling out of town is always a top agenda for families during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Whether going back to your hometown provinces for reunions, or to tourist destinations for some nature escapades, it’s a must for families to always bring their cameras to capture the people, the places and all the wonderful memories together.
This season of holiday travels, one of the best cameras to carry around is Canon’s latest PowerShot model, the G15. Dubbed as “the perfect companion for travel,” the G15 boasts of DSLR features packed inside a compact point-and-shoot camera.
The camera was recently launched at the Dusit Thani Manila together with several of Canon’s newest range of digital cameras. Canon ambassador and Chasing Light photographer Edwin Martinez demonstrated the camera’s key features and technology.
According to Martinez the G15 is best fitted for aspiring photographers because it offers a full range of manual functions like those in a DSLR.
Other stunning features of the compact camera include 12.1 megapixels; aperture of F1:1.8 to 2.8 (equivalent to 6.1 to 30.5mm lens); ISO from 80 up to 10,000; the latest DIGIC 5 imaging processor; and the fastest auto-focus, at 0.17 seconds, in its class.
Another new technology incorporated in G15 is the Dual Axis Electronic Leveling system, which brings up a graphical indicator that can help maintain the shot level and prevent tilted photos. Perfect for landscape photos, this feature also brings back the horizon if it is not visible due to low light or other circumstances.
More camera wonders
Besides the G15, Canon also introduced the PowerShot S110, SX50 HS SX500 IS as well as its most advanced point-and-shoot camera, the EOS M.
If the PowerShot G15 is a compact camera with DSLR features, the EOS M is a DSLR camera disguised as a compact camera.
This unique model uses a non-reflex operating system that strips off the optical viewfinder, main mirror, and mirror drive mechanisms that one would normally find in a DSLR. This results in a considerable decrease in size (thickness and height), weight, and number of dials and buttons, but with the same high performance, speed and image quality of a DSLR.
EOS M carries an 18.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor; a DIGIC 5 image processor; an ISO sensitivity of up to 12800 (expandable to 25600); a multi-touch 3.0-inch widescreen; and two new interchangeable lenses—the EF-M18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and the EF-M22mm f/2 STM.
As for the Canon’s DSLR range, the EOS 6D was introduced. With a 20.2-mega-pixel CMOS sensor, an 11-point AF system, and a shooting speed of 4.5 frames per second, the best quality about the EOS 6D is its WiFi capabilities and remote functions.
The EOS 6D can quickly connect to wireless networks and allow the transfer of data to PCs and smart-phones, as well as to PictBridge-enabled wireless printers.
