Fun and loose in 2013!

A hairstyle guide for the New Year
The New Year is always the best time to sport a different look and update an old hairdo. Since hair is one of the most noticeable looks especially on women, giving it some time and attention is worthwhile.

Jo Tubato, creative director of the Azta Urban Salon chain, shares with The Manila Times the top hair trends of 2013 to guide readers in New Year makeovers.

Fun hair color
Take your cue from Hollywood celebrities who have gone daring up top with ombre hair color—two opposing tones, from dark roots to lighter ends and vice versa. This trend has been around for a while but it’s only now that it’s really catching on. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can even opt for rainbow colored streaks to break the monotony of your hair with pops of color. You’ll surely be the star of the show, just like Katy Perry.

Pixie cut
If you can carry a pixie cut, then you’re hot. This hairstyle can make you look both cute and sophisticated, and it can even sharpen your features. It’s perfect especially if you’re tired of long hair. Chopping off your hair is a signal to the New Year that you’re ready to bring it on. Anne Hath-away’s pixie cut for Les Miserables is definitely in.

Loose and lovely waves
The allure of curls has never faded through the years. Timeless and glamorous, the trend now is to make those waves sweeter and more va-va-voom than the messy ‘do we’ve gotten used to. Think Veronica Lake of the ‘40s or Amanda Seyfried for today’s modern girl. Seems difficult to achieve? Thankfully, we have digital perm to magically vamp up our hair!

Ponytails
Having a bad hair day? Tie it in a ponytail! And it’s even considered stylish. Ponytails are associated with that sleek, polished look that’s still sexy and elegant. You can tie your ponytail high and tight to make you feel extra confident for the day. Channel the inner Gwyneth Paltrow in you!

“It’s a new year and it’s best to greet it with a bang. Let’s be ready not just spiritually and emo-tionally, but also physically. We’ll all feel great when we look good.” Tubato ends.
