‘Talo, Tabla, Panalo’ – a dramatic trilogy

Veteran actor Eddie Garcia

A serious drama that will hold you breathless, that’s Talo, Tabla, Panalo, a trilogy starring (in order of appearance) German Moreno, Eddie Garcia, and Boots Anson-Roa, who are all icons in the country’s movie industry.

The movie, directed by Buboy Tan, also has a star-studded cast of supporting actors in Liz Alindogan, Julio Diaz, Jao Mapa, Deborah Sun, Chito Alcid, Isadora, Yvonne, Tita Swarding, Fredmoore delos Santos, Lara Morena, Benz Sangalang, Jimi Concepcion, Tiya Pusit, Gene Padilla, Whitney Tyson, Flora Gazer, Jack Delon, Sure Manuel, Kate Forster, Jess Sanchez, Banjo Romero, Joey Sarmiento, Bimbo, Martin, Albert Dominguez and Mary Anne Abarquez.

Talo stars Kuya Germs who says, “This episode is all about the dream of a father to be able to support his family but through the wrong way—gambling. He frequents the karera almost every day, and of course loses his bets.”

Of his performance, Kuya Germs shares that the fans who watched the shoots always applauded him after every take. “I must have done it well,” he added, “even if I’ve never gambled.”

The second episode Tabla, stars Eddie Garcia who plays a senior citizen who has lost everything but still helps other people build their houses. The irony is he is homeless but saves planks of wood to prepare his coffin for death.

On playing the role of a taong grasa, the highly respected actor remarks, “I did not mind being covered by mud or dirty oil. I even put honey on my hands, neck and my body to attract ants and make my character more realistic.”

Eddie is the only actor in the Philippines who has become is a FAMAS “Hall of Famer” in numerous categories, namely, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

The third and final episode portrays Boots Anson Roa as a mother who succeeds in providing all of her children’s needs. “It is very worthwhile to see Panalo and the rest of the episodes because the audience will learn a lot from them,” she enthused.

Produced by Amie and Tony Abarquez, Talo, Tabla, Panalo premiered on November 15 at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, and is now showing in selected cinemas.
