The “aswang” movie Pascalina by Pam Miras won best picture at the 8th Cinema One Originals Film Festival awards night held Monday night at the Dolphy Theater.
Pascalina is about a woman who receives a curse from a dying aunt that will push her to the edge of madness and monstrosity. According to Miras, it is unlike any ‘aswang’ story told in Pinoy cinema. It stars Maria Veronica Santiago, Peewee O’Hara, Cara Eriguel, and Alex Vincent Medina.
The indie film Catnip was the night’s biggest winner, bagging home four awards including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Musical Score.
Catnip stars Lauren Young and Maxene Magalona and tells the story of two friends who, despite their differences and frequent squabbles, find comfort in each other.
The erotic drama Palitan from Ato Bautista meanwhile, won the top acting awards for actors Mara Lopez and Alex Medina.
A total of 13 films competed in this year’s festival, which is backed by ABS-CBN’s Cinema One cable channel.
Audience Choice Award winner “Melodrama Negra” and Best Picture winner “Pascalina” will have special screenings on December 9, 2012 Sunday at the Robinson’s Galleria Movie World Cinema 4 at 6:30 pm and 9:00 p.m respectively.
