Korean rapper Psy, who captured world attention and recognition with his viral hit song, Gangnam Style, will wow Filipino fans when he performs his amusing dance moves at a special dance-concert on December 20 at the Mall of Asia outdoor concert grounds in Pasay City.

Renen de Guia of Ovation Production and Joed Serrano of That’s Entertainment said Manila has been included in the K-pop sensation’s tour dates in Asia and other parts of the globe as a special Christmas treat for millions of fans who have been avidly following Psy and his music on YouTube and other social networks.

According to De Guia and Serrano, the one-night-only concert, titled Psy: Gangnam Style Live In Manila! will also feature an all star-cast composed of some of the biggest and hottest names in local music and entertainment who have been especially picked and assembled to perform with Psy in his historic Manila debut.

Among the local artists and performers who will share the same stage with Psy are Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Wally and Jose, Pokwang, Chocoleit, Pooh, K Brosas, Ate Gay, and Ai Ai de las Alas.

Psy, whose real name is Park Jae Sang, has been a mainstay of the South Korean music industry for more than a decade before achieving international success following the release this year of his K-pop single, Gang-nam Style, which went viral both as a pop song and as a music video on YouTube and other social networks.

Gangnam Style broke into the US market when it debuted at No. 74 on Billboard Hot Digital Songs with 23,000 downloads on its first chart week before rocketing to no. 4 with 188,000 download for the chart week of September 29.

It entered the Billboard Hot 100 list at No. 64 on September 22 to become the second K-pop to chart behind the Wonder Girls’ Nobody in 2009. It also made it to the Billboard Pop Songs at No. 28 with 1-million download in the US, climbing to No. 11 and ending up at No. 2 on the chart, behind One More Night by Maroon 5.

After debuting on the US Singles Chart at No. 196, the song vaulted into the upper rungs of the chart, landing at No. 6 and No. 3 on its third week on its way to the No. 1 spot on the official September 30 chart, making it the first K-pop single to achieve the feat.

The music video has overtaken Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe to reach the No. 1 spot on the YouTube Top 100 Music Video for the week of August 28. It eventually surpassed Girls’ Generation’s Gee to become the most viewed K-pop video on YouTube, with the number of daily views generated by it going past the 5-million mark in September.

On August 21, Gangnam Style charted No. 1 on the iTunes Music Video Charts, overtaking Justin Bieber’s As Long As You Love Me and Katy Perry’s Wide Awake—the first for any South Korean artist. It topped the iTunes charts in 31 countries in September.

The song also peaked on Bill-board’s YouTube Music Video Chart at No. 1 in early September and earned recognition from Guinness Book of World Records as the most “liked” video in YouTube history.

As of December 2, the music video has accumulated 904 million views on YouTube to emerge as the site’s most watched video, dislodging Justin Bieber’s single, Baby, from the top spot. It is poised to reach 1 billion views before Christmas Day.

Psy made his entry into the mainstream US music industry when he was featured at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on September 6, followed by an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on September 10, during which he taught Britney Spears the dance.

After performing at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 11—where Gangnam Style received the Best Video award—Psy joined American singer-song-writer Madonna on stage during her concert at the Madison Square Garden in New York City and performed with her a mash-up of the song and her 2008 hit, Give It 2 Me.

Psy closed out the 40th American Music Awards Show on November 18 with a performance of Gangnam Style, joined by surprise guest MC Hammer.

He appeared as a musical guest at the special Thanksgiving Day broadcast of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on November 22 before an all-military studio audience, during which he performed the hit song and danced alongside the soldiers, going into the crowd as part of his act.

He will perform for US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the Christmas in Washington TV special which will be aired on December 21, with the taping for which held on December 9.
