Filipina boxer Ana ‘The Hurricane’ Julaton thrashed Mexican challenger Jessica Villafranca on Friday (Saturday in Manila) at the Polifuncional Sports Complex in Yucatan, Mexico to retain her World Boxing Organization (WBO) female super bantamweight belt.
Using her patented rapid-fire combinations, Julaton clipped the 18-year-old Villafranca 98-91, 96-93 and 97-92, improving her record to 10 wins, two losses and a draw.
Julaton, who was also mentored by Freddie Roach, suffered a cut on the forehead from an accidental head butt early in the fight but ignored the injury and pressed on with her attacks.
It was Julaton’s third win after absorbing a unanimous decision loss to Lisa Brown last year. The Filipina seized the 122 lbs. belt from Maria Elena Villalobos last year.
Villafranca now has a 12-4-0 win-loss-draw slate; six of her wins were by way of knockout.
