The nuclear-powered USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group (CVN-73) is in Manila for a five-day goodwill visit.

The Philippine Navy said that the Port of Manila will host USS George Washington headed by its Commander Rear Admiral John Haley. The carrier was escorted by two other vessels, the USS Cowpens and USS McCampbell.

The US vessels were met by Philippine Navy Vessels BRP Mariano Alvarez (PS38) and BRP Bienvenido Salting (PG112) in Corregidor Island. The Philippine vessels escorted the visitors to the designated anchorage area in Manila Bay.

A meeting procedure is a traditional navy activity observed internationally where the host’s ships meet with the visiting ships and escorts them to their port of call.

The Philippine Navy said that the meeting procedure was followed by a port briefing aboard the aircraft carrier.

The visit includes other activities such as port briefing, courtesy calls, reception, ship’s tour, professional exchanges, community relations and services projects, and goodwill games between the Philippine Navy and United States Navy.

According to the Philippine Navy, the visit will enhance and strengthen the relationship between the two nations and their naval forces.
