POLICE operatives on Friday arrested the two main suspects in the killing of a Universtity of Santo Tomas (UST) graduate in Bacoor City, Cavite province.
Brothers Roel Gacita Jr., 24, and Rollin, 27, were arrested two days after Cyrish Magalang, was found dead with 49 stab wounds in a grassy area in Brgy. Gawaran, Bacoor City, Cavite.
The two admitted the crime, saying that they were high on drugs when they committed the crime against the 20-year-old recent graduate from the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
They said that they initially wanted to rob and rape the victim who was a passenger in their tricycle but bashed her head with a hollow block and stabbed her when she resisted. They also begged for forgiveness by the victim’s family.
Meanwhile, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) on Friday expressed high hopes that the two arrested suspects were not “fall guys.”
VACC founding president Dante Jimenez also said in a radio interview that there could be no justice for Magalang until the suspects were put behind bars.
Jimenez also offered free legal assistance to the families of the victim to ensure the conviction of the suspects.
He also pushed for the re-imposition of the capital punishment in the country, saying that heinous crimes are once again on the rise.
“Dapat nang ibalik ang parusang bitay, kaya umaapela kami sa ating mga mambabatas [It’s about time that death penalty should be re-imposed, that’s why we are urging our lawmakers],” he added.
