Philippine Volcanoes member Andrew James Wolf left for England on Friday to compete in the prestigious 2012 Mr. World slated on November 24 at the Kent Country Showground in Kent.

“I think I can represent and do the best I can for the Philippines,” said the 27-year-old Wolf during the press presentation hosted by Miss World-Philippines franchise owner Cory Quirino.

Among 20 entries sent by top talent and modeling agencies, Quirino has appointed Wolf along with private panel of judges based on his “strong athletic background.”

“The reason for this move is that Mr. World is a brain and brawn pageant, and we wish to make a strong showing in sports and endurance challenge of the competition,” said Quirino.

Some 50 participants from different parts of the globe will be competing in four challenges—extreme, sports, fashion and style, and multimedia—to determine the 10 finalists on the coronation night. “A unique Army Assault Course will be introduced this year making the Mr. World Pageant the most unique and challenging of competitions.”

The Philippine Volcanoes recently qualified for the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 after finishing third in the Asian Sevens Series 2012 held in Singapore. They stunned powerhouse South Korea in the battle-for-third match via a 22-19 decision.

Wolf was also part of the national rugby team that won silver medal in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

He knows how to play a violin and plays football and badminton during his spare time. He recently started an events management company with specialization on sports-related activities.

The Mr. World pageant owned by the Miss World Organization headed by Julia Morley, was founded in 1990. It is a competition for men ages 17 to 27. The last edition was held in 2010 in Incheon, South Korea with Ireland’s Kamal Ibrahim winning the title.
