Mixed martial arts (MMA)fighter Mark Striegl will put his unblemished 11-0 record on the line, when he battles fellow Filipino-American Harris Sarmiento in the 145lbs to 155lbs division of the Pacific X-Treme Combat (PXC) Championship 34 tonight at the Araneta Coliseum.
Striegl, whose mother is from Mindoro, said that he will do everything to protect his undefeated record so he can fulfil his long time dream of competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
“I would really love to compete in the UFC,” said Striegl, who defeated Robert Wusstig via submission in the same tilt on September. “But now, I’m taking it one fight at a time. I hope in the future I can fight in the UFC.”
Striegl, who wrestled through high school and in college before training in MMA at Wajyutsu Keisyukai dojo, is hoping to emulate fellow PXC fighter John Tuck of Guam who had an impressive debut in the UFC Macau last week winning over Zhang Tiequan through unanimous decision.
Sarmiento, for his part, said that he’s determined to give Striegl his first loss.
“I’ve trained hard for this fight,” said Sarmiento (35-23 win-loss record). “I know he’s one of the toughest guys out there but I’m not bothered.”
The other main event match is a battle between homegrown talents flyweight champion Ale Cali and returning veteran Erwin Tagle.
