PH battles Thailand in Suzuki Cup opening day

THE Philippine Azkals will take on the host Thai squad in the opening day of 2012 Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand today.


Game time starts at 8:20 p.m.

Datsakorn Thonglao and striker Teerasil Dangda are expected to lead the Thai team.

On the other hand, the Azkals will rely on the goalkeeping prowess of homegrown talent Eduard Sacapano after English Premier League squad Fulham recalled Filipino-British goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

Spearheading the Azkals’ campaign are brothers Phil and James Younghusband, Denis Wolf, Chiefy Caligdong, Demitrius Omphroy, Jason Cagara, Jason Sabio, Chris Greatwitch and Marwin Angeles, among other players.

The Azkals are aiming improve their semifinals finish in tournament two years ago, when they were still under British coach Simon McMenemy. .

After Thailand, the Philippines will face Vietnam on November 27 and 30 in the group match.
