The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Thursday has formally issued a product recall on at least six Korean noodles that found positive with a cancer-causing ingredient.
Kenneth Go, FDA acting director, in an advisory, had identified the noodle products as Nongshim Neoguri (hot), Nongshim Neoguri (hot) Multi, Nongshim Neoguri (mild), Nongshim big bowl noodle shrimp, Nongshim Saengsaeng udon bowl noodle and Nongshim Saengsaeng udon.
Go said that these products, which were identified by the Korean FDA, contain benzopyrene, a cancer-causing ingredient, saying that the products that were recalled will be subjected to inventory checks and validation laboratory tests.
“The Philippine government mandate is to protect consumers and is taking regulatory steps to ensure that these products will be off the market shelves immediately,” Go said.
“These same brand of noodle products will not be permitted in the market in the future unless tested and cleared by competent authorities. The government is also undertaking inspection, collection and testing of other brands of noodles not currently identified to be contaminated as a precaution,” he added.
Go also said that the FDA is advising the public to stop buying the noodle products.
He also urged the public to report stores that are still peddling the recalled Korean noodle products.
