Thorough screening eyed in swine distribution

The Quezon City (QC) council has passed a resolution strongly urging the QC health department to strictly monitor, through its veterinary division, all the hogs being sold and supplied to lechon houses and restaurants in the city.

The resolution also urged the veterinary inspectors to see to it that all the hogs being sold and supplied are properly stamped with the meat inspection seal of the city government.

It was stressed in the resolution that Section 15 Article 2 of the 1987 Constitution states that “the state shall protect the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them.”

In line with this policy, the QC council enacted ordinance No. SP 1891, S-2008 “An Ordinance Governing the Slaughtering of Food Animals, Meat Inspection and Meat Trade in Quezon City.”

This year, Mayor Herbert Bautista approved Ordinance No. SP-2164, S-2012 entitled “An Ordinance Amending Ordinance No. SP-1891, S-2008 by providing stiffer penalty for those who will violate the prohibition against the distribution and selling of the so-called “double dead” meat and “hot meat” within Quezon City.

The resolution for the strict monitoring and inspection of meat supplies was introduced principally by Councilors Allan Benedict Reyes, Anthony Peter Crisologo, Dorothy Delarmente, Alexis Herrera, Jessica Castelo Daza, Precious Hipolito Castelo and Gian Carlo Sotto.
