Bureau of Customs insiders are complaining that a certain Joey Yuchongco of the Customs police reportedly charged of amassing illegal wealth is still very much in active duty.
Earlier reports had it that Yuchongco, who is facing a string of graft cases before the Office of the Ombudsman, was already suspended based on a Court of Appeals resolution.
However, former Ombdusman Mercedita Gutierrez allegedly managed to put the BoC official back to work via her reported “midnight resolutions.”
Gutierrez was said to have failed attending to many cases but she was reportedly able to quickly resolve that of Yuchongco.
The move drew suspicion from Representatives Niel Tupaz Jr. of Iloilo province, Teddy Casiño and Neri Colmenares of Bayan Muna party-list that an “out of court settlement” happened to favor Yuchongco.
Yuchongco has been closely identified with former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo and is said to be one of the latter’s favorites.
