The Commission on Elections (Comelec), on Saturday, appealed to the Supreme Court (SC) to immediately resolve the cases involving party-list groups before the Christmas holiday break.
“The cases should be resolved before the SC goes on recess in December,” Comelec Chairman Sixto Bril-lantes Jr. said, referring to the resolution of the petitions of party-list groups disqualified earlier by the Comelec.
The high court on Tuesday issued a status quo ante order on the Comelec’s decision to disqualify eight party-list groups.
Brillantes said that he is hoping for the court to act on the petition as soon as possible, since the Comelec is also pressed for time considering the proximity of the May 2013 polls.
If the cases will not be decided early, the poll chief said that Comelec will be left with no choice but to include the names of the eight groups in the official ballots.
If the ballots were already printed and the party-list groups were disqualified, the votes for them would not be counted and would be disregarded.
