Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday denied the accreditation of the Black and White movement, saying that the group is more of a political party than a party-list group.
In an interview, Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said that five commissioners agreed to stick with the decision of the Comelec’s First Division to disqualify the movement’s accreditation, while two abstained from voting.
Sarmiento said that the main reason for the denial of their motion for reconsideration was the movement’s failure to prove its track record of working and representing the marginalized and the underrepresented.
“Grounds for denial of the en banc was lack of track record working with and for the marginalized and underrepresented. Too, their nominees do not belong to the marginalized or underrepresented so based on these grounds the en banc affirmed the ruling.” Sarmiento told reporters.
Nominees of the movement include Nolasco Apolonio, Marco Elmer, Jose Morales, Mary Shinn Ramos and Leah Navarro, who is a member of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
